Braces are often used on teenagers and adults to help them straighten teeth which have not grown in the right position. Often what has happened is that teeth have not had enough room to grow, and so have grown at an angle. When you wear braces, you expect to be able to remove them without problems, and to have nice, straight, white teeth. We only take braces off once we are 100% happy with the results and so are the patient. Once the braces are finally debonded, we will then commence teeth whitening and recontouring to truly perfect your new smile.
The first step to removing braces is to take off the fitted curve on the back of each set of braces using a pair of dentistry pliers (this is a painless process). The plastic adhesive is gently broken away, and then brackets can then be removed when the wire comes off. The brackets will pop off, but there will be some plastic remaining on the surface of the tooth. There may also be problems with the final appearance of the teeth, including jagged edges (that were there to begin with) which give the teeth an unattractive look even after straightening – do not worry, cosmetic recontouring is included in all our orthodontic treatments and we are able to smooth out any edges to complete your smile.
The first step after the braces have been removed is to straighten out the edges of the teeth. There are often breaks and small chips on the surface of straightened teeth, caused by being out of position prior to straightening. Part of our orthodontic package includes free teeth re-contouring after the braces have been removed.
We find that the majority of our orthodontic patients are interested in teeth whitening so we have included it for free as part of the end of treatment package. As the teeth need to be cleaned anyway to remove plastic surfaces, a free teeth whitening service can be used which will help to whiten your smile and really finish off your perfect smile. We smooth off the plastic, and then polish the enamel, and at the same time we can use cleaning methods to make sure that any staining prior to the braces is removed. After you have completed your orthodontic packaged treatment you will truly notice the difference.
