It has been estimated that up to a half of young adults and adults have poorly aligned teeth. Our dental clinic often treats people in their more mature years, and there is no upper-age limit. If you still have teeth which are misaligned, then you can have orthodontic treatment to solve the problem. Although people used to believe that it was important to have your teeth straightened when you were young, there is no reason why you cannot wear braces even when you are no longer a teenager.
If you have been struggling with misaligned teeth since your childhood, then you may still be reluctant to have braces. Adults often put off orthodontic treatment because they believe that they can’t afford it, or because they are embarrassed. They don’t want to go out in a group and be teased about wearing braces. If they have tried to straighten teeth before, then memories of teasing may make them reluctant. However, it is important to remember that correctly aligned teeth are easier to keep clean and to maintain, while non-straight teeth could suffer chipping and staining more frequently.
Another reason why some adults don’t choose to have braces is because they think that older teeth are set in place. Teeth are embedded in bone, and while you are young this bone is more adaptable to change. However, this doesn’t mean that you can’t have teeth changed. Even teeth which are too badly damaged to move can be replaced by implants, giving you straighter teeth.
If you want to change the look of your teeth today, we can help you. With modern braces, our dental team can straighten teeth no matter what your age. We have seen a wide range of patients in their 60s, 70s and 80s, all of whom have had successful orthodontic treatment with braces. Modern advances mean that we can take care of you and make sure that you get the assistance you need with tooth straightening. You may even find that you do better than a teenager, and get faster results, because we can rely on adults for compliance with dental treatments. Don’t worry about your age, and don’t think that we can’t help you. Our experience, skills and knowledge of technology means we can help you no matter how misaligned your teeth are.
