Dental Hypnotherapy

What is Dental Hypnotherapy?

Dental hypnotherapy is quite simply the use of hypnotherapy to overcome the fear of going to the dentist. We understand that for some people it is simply too scary and stressful to visit the dentist – which can cause a person to even not visit the dentist for many years, which will have a very adverse effect on their oral health and can even effect their overall well-being!

Hypnotherapy can be used to treat many different anxieties and fears by the use of different techniques that can identify any underlying issues that may be mentally affecting you.

There is no need to feel ashamed about your dental anxieties, it is quite common and natural to have them. There are many different phobias and fears people have about the dentist. Some of these include:

  • fear of needles
  • fear of pain
  • Choking/gagging
  • Lack of control
  • The dentists drill

Hypnotherapy can be used to help treat you for these common anxieties and many more – How you see and feel about the dentist will be completely changed!

What happens at a Hypnotherapy session?

The hypnotherapist will use a mixture of hypnosis, NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming), EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) to help overcome your fears.

Hypnosis is when a person is induced into a state of consciousness where they are very responsive to the direction of the hypnotherapist and is a common method used to recover suppressed memories that could be an underlying cause of a condition e.g. dental anxiety.

Neuro Linguistic Programming is a modern science quite commonly used in the top flights of sport and is primarily focused on adapting your mind to allow for a positive change e.g. visualisation techniques are used to detach and disassociate negative memories/feelings towards a specific experience, such as going to the dentist.

Emotional Freedom Technique uses light tapping on acupressure points whilst repeating certain phrases, which allows the sub-conscious to loosen up on issues – This method can be seen as a combination of hypnosis and acupuncture but without any needles!

It took me a while to make the step to finally phone your clinic to make the appointment. I was very nervous coming in the first time and even the second time I was a bit scared. Everyone has been very kind and made me feel very comfortable. The procedure was pleasant and not painful at all. I would like to thank everyone in the clinic for their kindness and work.
