The first thing to is take a deep relaxing, calming breath. We understand that there are many reasons which may of caused you to be scared of going to the dentist. It is quite a common fear and anxiety to have. Quite often the fear can be linked to a bad experience as a youngster which has then developed into a life long fear.
Modern dentistry has really evolved over the years and part of the treatment relies heavily on the patients experience from when they very first step into the practice, up to having the treatment and leaving. We pride ourselves on ensuring that each of our patients are well looked after and all of their needs are met.
Quite often the first step to having dental treatment if you are a nervous patient is through dental sedation. Sedation is a way of being put at complete ease and means that during the treatment you will be blissfully unaware of what is going on around you and you won’t have any memory of it afterwards. You will be able to speak and respond to questions, but the sedation will cause temporary memory loss. We have had patients in the past who after a couple of sessions of sedation have gone on to have treatment without the need to be sedated.
We offer free consultations for nervous patients so we can discuss with you what you don’t like or even what you are unsure about. Depending how you feel we will take a look to see what is going on in your mouth and what we are able to do for you.
If you are too scared to even see the dentist initially we can arrange a free consultation with the patient co-ordinator who will gladly show you around the practice and help build up your confidence to the next step.
