If your dentist has recommend that you use Invisalign or clear braces to straighten your teeth, then you may want to have more information about how they will look, and how long you can expect to be wearing them. The length of time you will have to have braces on will be very much case dependent, as it will depend on the severity of your teeth. At the free consultation we will be able to give you an estimated time frame to complete your chosen treatment.
For patients who require braces, you may only require minor corrections or adjustments to straighten the teeth into the correct position. This can include correcting the movement of canine teeth upwards into the gums, or a tooth which has moved out of position. In cases like this, the wearing of clear braces shouldn’t take as long as complex cases, some can even be completed in a matter of a couple of months (case dependent).
If you want to have major work done to your teeth, then you will need to have the clear braces in position for longer. For removable braces such as Invisalign, it is recommended that you wear your braces for between 20 and 22 hours every day in order to get the misalignment corrected quicker (the longer the aligners are out, the more time it will add onto your overall completion time). You may choose to wear your braces less often than this, and so your teeth may take longer to be corrected. Depending on the severity of your case, and how long you choose to wear your braces, you can find that the treatment time will take longer to complete.
Tooth movement requires time and patience, and for braces such as Invisalign which allow you to remove them as you require, you may have to wear the braces over a longer period in order to achieve the right amount of movement in your teeth. We do however offer a faster working brace (not suitable for all patients) called 6 month smiles. This is a ceramic brace, which only focuses on cosmetically improving the looks of the teeth e.g. the visible alignment. It doesn’t deal with any major structural changes. Due to this, cases can be completed in shorter periods of time (some case even in 6 months!).
