What Does a Cosmetic Dentist Do?

A cosmetic dentist performs dental treatment that improves the appearance of a person’s smile, including work on the teeth, gums and bite. Cosmetic dentistry, along with facial rejuvenation work including wrinkle removal, dermal fillers and lip plumping, plays a huge role in both maintaining and improving a person’s overall facial appearance and self-confidence.
A person’s smile is an integral part of facial aesthetics and can be the key to providing a more youthful, proportional and symmetrical appearance.
Cosmetic dentists carry out the following procedures, in addition to many other dental treatments:

Teeth whitening

This is one of the most convenient, painless and cost-effective routes to a better overall smile, where the teeth are bleached to remove stains and discolouring to give a brighter, whiter smile. We offer a choice of three treatments as well as a teeth whitening consultation to help us decide on the best treatment for you.

Veneers

Dental veneers can provide a remarkable improvement to the overall appearance of your smile and are a very popular choice for people with gaps between teeth, uneven smiles, chips or cracks in teeth or otherwise damaged teeth. Veneers are super thin shells that are closely matched to the patient’s tooth colour before being securely bonded to the surfaces of the teeth. We offer several types of veneers including porcelain, composite, Emax, DURAthin, daVinci, Mac and Lumineers, each suited to a different situation.

Tooth recontouring

This is a minimally invasive treatment that can change the surface, shape and length of individual teeth to correct fractured, chipped, cracked, crooked, pointy and overlapping teeth as well as rough edges and grooves or holes in teeth.

White fillings

For a filling that is indistinguishable from the rest of the tooth, white fillings replace lost tooth structure in the same way that silver amalgam ones do. For those worried about unappealing silver fillings or the risks of mercury, white fillings are an excellent alternative that can be placed in teeth in any part of the mouth.

Gummy smile correction

A ‘gummy smile’ is a term used to describe a smile that shows a large area of gum. Although considered normal by health professionals, this type of smile can result in a lack of confidence. We offer three main treatments for gummy smiles: laser gum reshaping, where excess gum is cut away and reshaped for a natural look; braces that can control that bone development of younger patients; and wrinkle removal treatment that can lower the height of the upper lip to cover excessive gum.

These are just a few of treatments that cosmetic dentists perform in order to create a confident, youthful smile. For more information about what we can offer you, please get in touch and we will be happy to help.
