Dental implants are revolutionary treatments in the dental market for replacing a missing tooth or missing teeth. No longer are the days where you need to have uncomfortable unsecure dentures.
A dental implant is normally between 3.5mm to 6.0mm. As the dental implant technology has advanced, there are now several options available to patients.
Whenever you lose a tooth or multiple teeth, the surrounding teeth and the bone structure where the missing tooth was, will be affected. Over time, the surrounding teeth around the gap will begin to be pushed towards the space, causing your teeth to grow wonky and uneven. However the main cause for concern is the bone structure where you tooth was. Your teeth are very important at maintaining your jaw line structure and when a tooth has fallen out, your bone will start to recede, causing your face and jaw line to lose its definition. The longer a tooth has been left and not replaced, the more severe a case will become.
Having had a very bad experience in the past, I was more than a little reluctant to embark on a rather long treatment of having an implant fitted. I was offered sedation for the first part of the procedure which was a huge relief. Although the treatment lasted six months I was seen on numerous visits to make sure all was well. I am still a rather reluctant patient, but my dentist Faresh, was always considerate and mindful of my fear of dentists the staff in general were helpful and pleasant. I would not hesitate to recommend the practice to friends and family, in fact it was through a recommendation which lead me to the practice in the first instance. I really appreciate the fact that Faresh has gone some way to making my visits considerably easier.
If you bone has receded to the point that a dental implant cannot be placed, a bone grafting operation will be performed, which will allow us to successfully place the implant/s into your jaw.
Dental implants are not needed per tooth. Depending on your situation, you may need a single implant with a crown or multiple implants with crowns and a bridge. In the worst case scenario of needing all your teeth replacing, you can have a denture securely fitted to both the upper and lower jaw – You would need a minimum of 4 implants per jaw. As you can see, dental implant treatments can be quite complex. We offer free consultations, where our dentist will examine your current dental health and then explain all the available options to you, clearly breaking everything down.
